Fashion on Fall TV!

By: Helen Cooper, Orange Juice & Biscuits Contributing Writer

The Fall TV premiere season is upon is and if you’re anything like me, your DVR is fuller than a room of Kim Zolciak's wigs. In honor of the occasion — and OJ&B’s love of anything and everything fashion — Jonathan asked me to put together some of the hottest trends seen on the screen in the past few weeks. Take a seat and grab a bowl of popcorn while I take you through TV’s biggest style trends—and tell you how to get the looks yourself!

Sassy ‘60s:

The gorge frocks on Mad Men are getting a run for their money this season with not one, but two new 1960s-era shows. Set before the free love hippie days, these looks are all about being ladylike! Bold, pretty prints and form-flattering dresses come in both styles that offer a full skirt and more hip-hugging, belted silhouettes. But it’s not all pillbox hats and matching pumps. Look for button-up blouses and pretty peasant tops paired with classic and cuffed Levis or cigarette pants.

How to Get the Look: Seek out feminine dresses and pant/top combos with clean lines and classic colors. Achieve that perfectly coiffed look using hot rollers or a large iron. Polish the look with nude, peach or bright red lips and manicured nails.

Black and White and Chic All Over:

This classic color combination is anything but boring! Try color blocking, incorporating stripes or polka dots or going for an all-out pattern. To keep the look from getting too boring, choose interesting fabrics, like leather and silk. And don’t be afraid to bring in a pop of color with accessories, or even contrast black with brown (a hot pairing this season).

How to Get the Look: This one is almost fail-proof, as nearly any black and white combination will work. But remember to make it interesting. Try pairing two patterns together since the color scheme is so basic, or add a bright pink lip or nail for shock value.

Let it Flow:

Bohemian bourge is in full effect this fall, with flowing skirts and dresses all the rage both on the runway and in the stores. Go high fashion, like Minka Kelly of Charlie’s Angels did in Michael Kors, or take a more casual approach with a simple peasant skirt, tee and a floppy hat. Pair with wedges, a strappy square heel or a gladiator sandal while it’s still warm enough. And don’t forget period appropriate accessories like bags with fringe, feather earrings or vests.

How to Get the Look
: If you want to go fancy with your flow, find a non-pleated skirt and pair with a blouse or sequined tank, finishing off the look with strappy heels. Run errands in a belted pleated skirt paired with a simple tank and messy bun or chambray button-down with a pretty side-braid. Or go full-on period with a suede vest, beaded necklace and bushy brows.

 Hipster Haute:

Whether it’s piling on scarves, rocking Buddy Holly glasses or donning combat boots, for better or for worse hipster fashion has hit the mainstream. But don’t worry, you can rock the look without looking like you need to shower. Layer band tees, open-button flannel or chambray tops and leather jackets, then finish with a chunky scarf on top. Or try pretty, feminine skirt/blouse combos or summer dresses with tights and belts (and maybe a jacket and ever-present scarf) to take the look into the fall. Don’t forget lots and lots of boots, vintage heels and converses.

How to Get the Look: Shop Etsy, thrift stores and Urban Outfitters. Remember to counter every unpolished choice (huge tees or untied boots) with equally feminine and pretty ones (perfect curls or floral dresses). And remember to have fun — just because you found that vintage leather jacket from 1978 first doesn’t make you cooler than everyone else.

It’s a (Wo)man’s World:

Menswear continues its fashion dominance this season, this time taking us into dad pants territory. But don’t be scared! Front pleats and tapered legs aren’t just for the over-50 men’s department anymore. Belted pants with the legs rolled up to show off fierce heeled sandals or stacked pumps pair well with pretty blouses and tucked tees. Layer with a sharp jacket or vintage cardi and jewelry and you’re good to go.

How to Get the Look: For this trend fit is key, so try on pants until you find your perfect pair. When you’ve got them, the sky’s the limit! Incorporate the leopard trend by finding a skinny belt in the print and add a pop of color with bold nails and a bright shoe. Dress up the look with cocktail rings galore and a gold men’s watch, or keep it everyday cool with loose waves and a striped tank.

POLL:OJ&B or Solange Knowles- Who Worked It Best?

As you all may know, I am obsessed with the amazing arrow ring made with black diamond crystals and matte gold that I received from the lia sophia Social Fashion Suite during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Above: The lia sophia arrow ring that I am all about right now!  Below: Jonathan Valdez of OJ&B shows off his lia sophia arrow ring and Lara Eurdolian from PrettyConnected.com shows of her lia sophia jewelry.

When I first saw it I thought to myself that the ring looks like something that a fierce performer would wear and apparently I was right! A few days later I saw that Solange Knowles (one of OJ&B's Boos) wore the exact same ring when she joined her sister Beyonce in the front row of Vera Wang's Spring Summer 2012 fashion show.

Since we both wore the same ring during the same week, I thought it would be fun to ask all of my guys and gals to tell me who you think worked it best. YOU DECIDE!  Cast your vote below and/or leave a comment!

OJ&B Meets Giuliana Rancic At The Lia Sophia Social Fashion Suite

Creative Director Elena Kiam and Red Carpet Collection Designer Dani Stahl invited OJ&B to preview lia sophia’s latest jewelry selections for Fall/Winter 2011 last week at the Empire Hotel. The jewlery line, which is a big celeb favorite, debuted the boudika Red Carpet Collection to the fashion elite during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

I was so excited to check out what lia sophia had to offer for Fall/Winter 2011. The jewelry for lia sophia is normally for women but I always look at pieces to see if I could pull them off without looking crazy. I LOVE a good ring and I absolutely fell in love with this arrow ring that I knew any girl or guy could rock! I put it on an instantly knew i had to rock it!

Above: I picked out this lia sophia arrow ring made with black diamond crystals and matte gold. It makes me feel like a rockstar!

The best part about going to the lia sophia lounge was running into the host of E! News and E!'s Fashion Police, Giuliana Rancic (see opening photo)!  She is like entertainment news royalty and you know that celebs and fashion are my favorite thing!  It was such an honor to meet her and we of course hit it off instantly.  She even asked my about OJ&B so now Guiliana Rancic-DePandi (as I like to call her) knows about OJ&B!  I hope that she reads it in her office at E! with Ryan Seacrest.

Thanks for being so nice to me GRD.  Next time you are back in NYC you totally need to holla at me and we will go have a coffee and talk celebs and fashion slash let me know if you need an extra person on E!'s Fashion Police (my dream)!

OJ&B Featured On AllTop.com Under Fashion Topic!

Featured in Alltop
I am thrilled that OJ&B was selected to be a website featured in AllTop.com's fashion topic! Alltop.com helps you answer the question, “What’s happening?” in “all the topics” that interest you.

Think of Alltop as the “online magazine rack” of the web. They subscribed to thousands of sources to provide “aggregation without aggravation." Their goal is to enhance your online reading by displaying stories from sources that you’re already visiting plus helping you discover sources that you didn’t know existed.

I am so happy that OJ&b will be featured among huge online fashion sources including major fashion magazines and blogs. It is so handy to see tons of fashion sites last 5 stories that they have posted.

Alltop.com does an amazing job explaining the purpose of the site via a cute and short video on their site. You can see it by clicking here.

Thanks AllTop.com!

GOODNESS presented by The Daily: The IT Place to Eat This Fashion Week!

We all know that having an entire week of being at the tents can leave you hungry for good food, especially when the snacks that they hand out in the tents leave you craving something that will stick with you for a few hours as you rush around the city. For seasons upon seasons there has not really been a solution for this food void but now GOODNESS has literally popped up to save the day!

Created as an oasis from the hubbub of the tents, GOODNESS is the go-to destination for health-conscious models, designers, industry insiders and epicureans this fashion week!

GOODNESS is the brainchild of Elettra Wiedemann who has been the face of Lancome for six years and is a fashion superstar. Having completed her dissertation at the London School of Economics on the future of feeding urban populations, Elettra explains she was inspired to start GOODNESS because “anybody who’s anybody knows it’s next to impossible to find a good, stylish, fast and healthy meal near Lincoln Center. GOODNESS solves that by serving locally-sourced, healthy food prepared by the city’s hottest chefs. Also, I know what it’s like to be in shows all day going crazy with all the stimulus, so I wanted to create a place where my friends could come eat and chill a bit before they go back to work.”

Above: Fashion powerhouse Elettra Wiedemann proudly poses in front of her newest project, GOODNESS which features free Internet by Orange hat Group and is located upstairs at Ed's Chowder House next to the Empire Hotel.*

Wiedemann teamed up with restaurateur and Michelin star chef Ed Brown and Fashion Week’s exclusive publication The Daily to provide the fashion crowd with fast, fresh and healthy cuisine. The word has quickly spread about this delicious and healthy place to eat as fashion forces like Prabal Gurung, Lorenzo Martone and Melissa George. OJ&B even stopped by with good friend Jena Gambaccini of Chi City Fashion. We had an amazing lunch that filled us up and prepared us for another long day! Check out the pictures of the people who have popped in!

GOODNESS is open for breakfast and lunch to provide healthy and delicious appetizers, entrees and desserts. With daily changing menus and daily changing chefs, GOODNESS will feature Nick Wilbur of The Fat Radish, Christopher Randell of Whitehall, Rob Newton of Seersucker, and Ed Brown of Ed's Chowder House. As Elettra describes it, "GOODNESS with a touch of BADNESS".

Tomorrow is the last day that you can experience GOODNESS at fashion week so hurry in! If you are out of town this year do not worry, GOODNESS will be a reoccurring pop-up during fashion week and other events.
