I LOVE seeing fresh design ideas and new talent in the world of fashion. One of the best ways to do this is by utilizing the cities amazing design schools that are just overflowing with untapped talent. I recently went to the AAS Line Debut 2010 at Parsons The New School For Design. I was blown away by the workmanship and creativity that these students put into their work.

One of my favorite pieces was a phenomenal take on the trench coat by Layo Gbadamosi. I noticed it instantly from cross the room. The coat is made of metallic linen with an exaggerated asymmetrical collar and hemline. "The look represents a sexy female detective, with a high collar meant to shield her face as she pursues her prey" Gbadamosi says of her design. I love everything about it!

Another great design was an elegant gold dress by Caleb Junghwan Park. Park was inspired by the shape of natural coral in paintings at the Metropolitan Museum. The fringe used for the belt is sustainable and the remainder of the garment is constructed using linen fabric. Well done! It really was put together well.

I was really impressed that there were also jewelry and handbag designers showcased as well. I loved the playfulness of this chocolate dipped strawberry purse by Martha Napier. Notice how she uses gold studs for the detail on the strawberry. Very clever!

It is so good to know that there are always fresh ideas in fashion being created everyday. I really encourage everyone to utilize the great universities in the city when looking for things to do. They always have really interesting exhibits, events, performances, speakers, etc.

Congratulations to everyone who showed at the AAS Line Debut 2010 at Parsons The New School For Design. Good luck with your designs after graduation! Maybe we will see you at Lincoln Center very soon!
