So Halloween is TOMORROW and you don't have a costume?
Have you already worn your costume to ten parties and want something new? Well the website costumepop.com has the solution for you with these printable blogger masks! OK, I will stop trying to be an infomercial now. When I saw these masks I thought, "That is so 2009 to dress up like a blogger." Then I was a little insulted that my face was not on their site, so I put it there myself! OMG, Can you imagine that? I would die if someone decided to be me for Halloween. You would need glasses, a vest, a fun fedora, and of course a fly bow tie! Then you would need to have your friends be ringleader Britney and any of the VMA Gagas and Voila! You have me hanging out with my everyday regular friends. What? You don't know my life... They could be my friends, DANG! No matter what you decide to be, make sure that you are safe and that you have an Spooktacular Halloween!

P.S. Be sure to tell me about all the Hallohoocies that you see. I want good stories!

Diesel Has Party To Celebrate New Glow In The Dark Garments!

In the resurge of all things 90's fashion (flannels, plaids, solid color clothing, keds,Doc Martin like boots, floral prints, and Urkel's wardrobe and glasses) the clothing company Diesel is attempting to bring back glow in the dark clothing. To celebrate the comeback of clothing that screams, "I must have all eyes on me even when it is dark," Diesel threw a bash last night slash this morning in good ol' New York City. In order to attend the party you had to go to the Diesel store in Union Square and ask for "Mr. Barron." Once you did that, you were then taken to a back room that looked like a rave and were given a wristband. Once you had your wristband for entry, you had to call the number on the wristband the night before to find out the location. DANG! All that work just to go to a party?! My friend slash NYC insider actually went to the party and said that it was "sick!" She told me that it looked like an underground cave party with black lights and people wearing crazy makeup getting crunk to Spank Rock. Sounds like a fun time was had by all! Now for some advice for people who may be wearing glow in the dark clothing. First of all, remember that because your clothing glows in the dark, you will stand out in the crowd. Catching someones eye in the darkness can be both good and bad. Good if you look fly in it and people notice you from across the room. Bad when you look like a hot mess at end of the night and you are making out in a corner forgetting that people can notice you from across the room. Glow in the dark clothing could also come in handy when that friend that everyone has gets too crazy at the club and looses you. The brightness of your clothes could lead them back to you like a drunk fly drawn to the light. I personally do not see myself wearing glow in the dark clothing anytime soon. If you or someone you know decides to rock them, PLEASE let me know how they work out! You GLOW girl! Or Boy!

Hallohoochies: Tricks or Treats?

Legend has it that every year around ALL Hallows' Eve, something in the air makes women across the nation.. Oh who am I kidding? It is Halloween time and the Hallohoochies have pushed up the girls and are ready to go! They go and buy a "different" costume from last year that is just the same tired pattern and design of a low cut shirt and uber short skirt or hot pants that is just slightly different from last year. Oh and I can't forget the shoes! Thigh High boots (as seen on our witch friend in the picture. I had to draw them on her cause her legs were originally cut off. You like?) are actually in this fall. I have a feeling that a lot of women who may be intimidated by them are going to use their Halloween costumes this year as an excuse to buy them. This way they can later incorporate them in their wardrobe.

"Girl, I was a slutty turtle for Halloween and I figured I might as well wear the thigh highs I bought for the costume." I say turtle because every year I am amazed at what people take and "skimplify." Now don't get me wrong, I am ALL about women doing their thing and having fun for Halloween, But if you dress like a hoochie allllllllll year long, Imma need you to try something different! Halloween is about trying something new and being something that you aren't the rest of the 364days of the year. This goes for guys too. We all know guys can be just as slutty as any girl. Not everything needs to be shirtless OK?

First of all people, it is usually cold on the H-WEEN. So put some clothes on! Pneumonia is NOT cute or what's happening for fall/winter! Then you go to work or school and spread your germs on the rest of us. We we all get the swine because you decided to be a hoochie and show your ghoul all over the place! "Girl, Tina was a sexy koala and she had cheeks for days!"

If you do decide to show some skin, at least be Lady Gaga. That way you can be sexy and scary! If you go Gaga though, you have to go all the way. I am talking about neck brace wearing, mask having, no pants involved, thigh high sporting, blood covered GAGA! Now THAT is a costume! I wonder what she will be for Halloween? In conclusion, have fun, be safe, and tricks share your treats responsibly! HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM JONATHAN AND OJ&B!

Clarissa Explains That She's No Longer A Teenage Witch!

33-year-old Melissa Joan Hart is finally going to get the chance to play an adult on television! The current Dancing With the Stars hopeful told Access Hollywood about the possible show that would co star Joey Lawrence and air on ABC Family. “It’s going be different ‘cause I get to play a little bit more of a grown-up, a politician, kind of a bad girl politician.” MJH said to AH about her new role.

Personally I am happy for her. I hope that the two 90's stars do well. I love that Melissa Joan Hart was a part of so many teen movies and shows. She was my generation's iCarly back when Nickelodeon stars didn't get heavy press like they do now. You never saw MJH on a talk show promoting Clarissa or going on tour and selling Clarissa merch. iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove was on Rachel Ray meeting her biggest fan. Where was Clarissa's biggest fan on a day time talk show? Where was Hey Dude the Movie? Sometimes I felt that I was he only kid who ever watched or knew about certain Nick shows because hey seemed to come on at random times like Pete and Pete and the actors were never seen outside of Nick. I digress. Back to Melissa's new show. Good luck and please do a Clarissa throwback episode slash reunion special! Thanks.

Please enjoy the intro and theme song to Clarissa Explains It all!
P.S. Check out MJH ahead of her time with her leggings/boots/high waisted shorts combo sure to be seen on a hipster near you!

La Bella Vida!

On October 9th I had the privilege of being the special guest on La Bella Vida to discuss Latinos and Media. I was interviewed by Executive Producer, Ashley Flores, about The Orange Juice and Biscuits blog, the former OJ&B radio show, networking, Twitter, Facebook, my work with Encore Magazine, the lack of Latinos in media, and so much more! I had such a great time doing the interview and felt truly honored to be asked on the show. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Ashley Flores and everyone at La Bella Vida for having me on. We definitely need more outlets and opportunities for Latinos in Media!

So You're Done With Twitter? Just Don't Dim Your Light!

So last week too many people were in a frenzy over Destiny Hope... I mean Miley Cyrus ending her Twitter account. Miley said that she felt she was wasting to much time on the social networking site and that she can't complain about not having a private life if she is the one telling people what she is doing. She just does not like ending up on all the gossip sites. So to make sure she stays off of the gossip sites for a while she decided to keep a low profile and make a bad rap video. Really Miley? So you don't have time to tweet but you have time make raps about why you don't tweet and then film the video in a bathroom slash dressing room? I feel like Miley is full of contradictions. Apparently one of her final tweets said that her Last Song co star and rumored boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth, wanted her to delete her Twitter account "with good reason.'' Now Miley is saying that he is not the reason that she got off of Twitter. Listen, I don't really care what you do Miley but please don't give young girls the idea that they should listen to their boyfriends like that. Someone told me that Nick Jonas wanted Miley to dye her hair so she did. That is not the cuteness Miss Montana! Remember what Oprah and Whitney were saying about diming your light for a man. Just saying! Make sure homeboy is not trying to dim your light that is brighter than his. That goes for Miley and for everyone! Dont let someone dim your light! OK, I am done trying to be Oprah! (For now).

Thank You For The Thank You Allison Parris!

On September 25th I wrote a blog post about how much I loved the Allison Parris Spring/Summer 2010 fashion show! I wrote about how it was my favorite show that I saw during NYC Fashion week and how I wanted the music for the soundtrack of my life. Earlier this week I received a very nice email from Allison Parris herself. Here is what she wrote:

Hi Jonathan,

Thank for the post :) Here is a copy of two of my favorite songs from the runway mix, the whole compilation was too large of a file to send, but hope this helps with the "soundtrack of your life."

Best,
Allison Parris

I was so excited that the actual designer I wrote about read my blog! Thank you so much Allison for taking the time to read my post and for the nice email! This just goes to show that you never know who is reading. Also, thank you to EVERYONE who has taken time to read my blog posts and to everyone who had helped spread the word. The number of hits have been growing at a crazy rate.

P.S. The two songs that you sent have helped greatly with my life soundtrack! That was so awesome of you to send them!

Me? A Trend Setter? Why Thank You Nordstrom!

When it comes to fashion, I have always loved playing around with different looks and styles. My motto is "If you look good then you feel good!" I wear what makes me feel good and I don't care what others think at all. I dress for myself and I hate when people say "Do you think this is too much?" or "Is this too dressy?" Who cares! Wear what makes you feel good. Lately I have been getting some great compliments on how I dress and it honestly has taken me by surprise. Last week I was thrilled when I got on twitter and found an awesome compliment from a reliable source! One of my favorite stores, Nordstrom, has a twitter and the person who runs it is so nice! Here is what was said:

Nordstrom : @jonvaldez Hi again. Just wanted to let you know that you are a trend setter. Check out this post from our NYFW blog: http://bit.ly/2L9Bvn

jonvaldez : @Nordstrom OMG! Thank you so much! I am BEYOND FLATTERED that @nordstrom called me a trend setter!!!! WOW! best day ever! Good post!

Nordstrom : @jonvaldez You're welcome! After that chat we had about bow ties a while back, who else would I think of when I saw that post? :-)

Everyone knows I love a good bow tie! We had talked about my love of bow ties earlier in the summer and thought it was so nice of them to think of me when they saw that blog! I know this sound corny but everyone should always remember compliments and forget about haters and naysayers! In the immortal words of Paris Hilton, (no really they are immortal because they are in the Oxford Dictionary of Quotes)“Dress cute wherever you go, life is too short to blend in.” Sorry I qouted Paris, but for once I agreed with her. Once again, thanks so much Nordys for the awesome compliment!

I Think I Have Gagarhea...

O M G! I HATE Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta a.k.a Lady Gaga! RIGHT? I mean uh.. I don't feel so well... Let me explain, I have always said that I could not stand Gaga. I even went so far as to never blog or talk about her on my show because I said that she just wanted attention and I would not give it to her. I stood firm on my dislike for Gaga!

When I watched the 2009 VMA's I just shrugged it off thinking "OH GAGA!" A couple of days later I was walking around the streets of NYC with some friends and I noticed I kept bringing up Gaga. I was like "Gaga did this," and "Omg Gaga has done that," and "Did you know Gaga wore a Kermit outfit?" Gaga, Gaga, Gaga! That's when I realized that I had come down with Gagarhea. All the symptoms were there. The constant talking about Gaga, wanting to watch the VMA performance over and over, and getting disappointed when you think you hear Paparazzi on the radio but it's not Paparazzi.

I am slowly learning to cope with what I have. I don't think there is any hope for me at this point. I knew things were getting bad when I was on the Gaga wiki page and I asked my friend to burn Paparazzi on a CD for me last weekend. (Yea, I don't have an Ipod! And what? Jealous?) We also jammed out to the song quite a few times. That song just gets me! I think I like it because it is not like the other Gaga songs that I am still not a huge fan of. At least I am coming to terms with my liking of Gaga. This blog was a big step for me.

I have to say that she won me over with that ridiculous performance and all of those costume changes at the VMA's. I respect that she just wears whatever she wants. Like my friend Krissy says, "Life if too short not to wear birds in your hair!" In other words, life is to short to not wear crazy things.

Now that the KaGa or Kanye/Gaga "Fame Kills" tour has been cancelled Gaga might be doing smaller venues. I personally think Gaga in the round would be intense! I am really proud that I have gone public with my liking of Gaga. I know that many of you are struggling with Gagarhea as well and I hope this helps you deal with not only Gaga but Britney! Yes there are so many Britney lovers that are ashamed to admit it, but I know who you are when they play her at the club! I am going to leave you with the VMA performance of Paparazzi. I am sure everyone has seen it but if you are like me, you probably want to watch it again because you think the live version is better. It's OK! Watch it! No one will Judge you... Not here!

P.S. Gaga on Saturday Night Live tomorrow with host Ryan Reynolds!
